Tess used to run out, always up the middle between the lanes no matter which lane sh was running on. I used clicker training with her. I had a single jump and used to put the ball on the other side of the jump. She jumped over to get it and then I clicked and treated her when she jumped over on the way back. I started it in the hallway so she had no real choice but to jump. Eventually I had the jump outside and put the ball directly behind and then out to the sides (like a fumbled box) and she learnt with the clicker to always come back over the jump.
However, very occasionally she will have a brainbreak and run out - usually when I have not done one warm up with a wing! Hope this helps.
